Apr 26th to 28th - Spokane

Apr 26th – Thurs
I stayed home while Terry took the truck in to get new tires and to meet his brother Gary for lunch. I did another load of laundry but this time used the drier as it is still rainy. I gave Georgia a Picasa lesson. After Terry got back, we visited a while with B&G, I put in the last load of laundry and we went grocery shopping. We are also looking for an electric mattress pad as Terry’s side quit working again and it is cold here at night. I think it is too late in the season as no one had any.
When we got back I found that the laundry fairy lives with B&G as my clothes were all dry & folded! I had put a pork roast in the crock pot as it was definitely our turn to make dinner. We took everything to B&G’s since they have more room and, more importantly, a dishwasher.
This time we played Sequence after dinner. The guys took an early lead but the women persevered and finally won.

Apr 27th – Fri
We took the truck in for a little recall fix this morning. It took longer for the Chev dealer to wash the truck afterwards than it did to reprogram the computer which is what was involved in the recall. We stopped at a couple more stores looking for a mattress pad with no luck. We also stopped at another grocery store and got a turkey to take to Marg’s, a couple of chickens for cousin Pat and a few items we forgot yesterday. We got an external “hard drive” for our computer and I did an initial system backup which took quite a bit of time and was watched by all of us by the time it was halfway done. In other words, we goofed off and gabbed again!!
B&G’s niece Brenda and her daughter Camille came from Seattle to stay overnight and then go to an open house at a university that Camille hopes to attend. They arrived about 5 and we had a good time chatting and having another good dinner made by Georgia.

Apr 28th – Sat
We went out for breakfast with B&G to a nice little restaurant in Liberty Lake which is nearby. We packed up all our booze to leave here when we go to Canada. Then we stop by on our way south and pick it up. We didn’t do much of anything until we left to do a couple of errands before going for dinner at Mike & Mary’s. We finished our errands early so we had to make a quick trip to Quest Casino. Of course Terry started winning when it was time to leave so we were late getting to Mike & Mary’s.
M&M remodeled their kitchen, dining room & living room and we wanted to see the results. They ran into a lot of problems and delays but it is very nice. They also replaced their deck/patio which turned out great. They have a very rambunctious 10 month old lab “puppy” who decided I was an easy mark for an ear scratching. We had a nice dinner and got caught up with each other’s news.

Apr 23rd to 25th - to Spokane

Apr 23rd – Mon - Pendleton
I forgot to mention before I posted the blog that we had a large lightning & thunder display just as we were eating dinner last night.
We puttered around doing some things on the computer and then had breakfast before walking to the casino. The machines were much more friendly this morning (and early afternoon!) so we were a few $ ahead when we quit at 2:30. We were surprised how much it had warmed up when we were in the casino.
I decided to make an early dinner so Terry put out a couple of chairs in the shade so we could sit & have a drink while dinner was cooking. By the time dinner was ready, the sun had moved around so we had to sit behind our neighbor’s motor home for shade while we ate.
We headed back to the casino – at least we were getting a little exercise! – and Terry finally got lucky and covered our allowances for today and part of yesterday. It helped that I wanted to get back to watch DWTS and he couldn’t (possibly) lose his winnings.
We had a huge storm late this evening – lightning, thunder, rain & wind. We were using the antenna to get DWTS and the last part was pretty broken up due to interference as the storm moved through.

Apr 24th – Tues – to Spokane
We had a few raindrops when we left this morning but then it was clear & sunny for the 240 mile drive to Bill & Georgia’s in Spokane. I spent about an hour of the trip talking to Marg so it went by faster than usual.
We set up in our usual “reserved” site in Bill & Georgia’s spacious back yard. Terry & Bill went to an RV parts store to find a gasket for the freezer door in their 5th wheel and then came back and fashioned a fix when the only solution was to buy a new door for nearly $200. I thoroughly enjoyed helping Georgia clean up some flower beds.
Georgia made dinner for us and then we taught them how to play Ponytail Canasta. After 2 hands it was time to watch the results show of DWTS and then to bed.

Apr 25th – Wed – HAPPY BIRTHDAY, brother DOUG!
Terry got up early and went golfing with Bill & his friend Vern. They play 9 holes and are usually the first ones on the small course so they were back shortly after 9 – just before my load of laundry was ready to hang on the line.
We left to run errands – pick up mail, renew licenses for the truck & 5th wheel, visit Costco for items not available – or more expensive – elsewhere, order tires for the truck, stop at the bank to switch to a credit card with better features and, last but not least, pick up a Sour Cream Lemon pie for dessert. All this and we were back around 1. We keep thinking that we are forgetting other things that need to be done.
We puttered away the rest of the afternoon and Georgia made dinner again for us. Then we got out the cards and finished the canasta game – which the women won by a very small amount.
It started to rain after dinner and the forecast is for more rain for a few days.

Apr 2oth to 22nd - Winnemucca, Pendleton

Apr 20th – Fri – to Winnemucca
We pulled out at 7:45 this morning and had an uneventful drive to Austin where we stopped for lunch. Before Austin we were travelling between 2 mountain ranges and then went over one where we reach an elevation of 7400 feet and then had to drop to Austin on a steep, winding road. We decided to drive longer today and stay in Winnemucca for 2 nights rather than 2 stops of one night each.
We arrived in Winnemucca just after 3 and checked into the HiDesert RV park where we stayed a couple of years ago. The first spot we were assigned had the power post all the way to the front and our power cord would not reach so we moved to another site and set up. We discovered that a tree was now in the way of our satellite dish but the park has pretty good cable TV so we stayed put and had a relaxing evening.

Apr 21st – Sat - Winnemucca
We eventually went to town and had a ham & egg breakfast special at the same restaurant that we went to last year. We went to WalMart where we got an oil change and shopped for a couple of items while we were waiting. We looked for an RV parts store, couldn’t find one and went back to the park. There they told us that the Ace Hardware carries a lot of RV parts so we went back but still didn’t find the part that Terry needs.
We have had low water pressure in the rig and Terry suspected the inlet valve which is what we were looking for. Since we didn’t find one, he swapped the valves on the water and the winterizing connections. We now have normal water pressure.
After dinner we went back to WalMart for doughnuts & bananas – normal “travelling” food – and stopped at a casino to support Winnemucca.

Apr 22nd – Sun – to Pendleton
We left at 7:25 in beautiful sunny, cool weather. The drive reminded us again of the emptiness of most of Nevada and the hardiness of cattle that graze on almost nothing and have to walk miles for water. We took Hwy 95 all the way to Jordan Valley and then in a short time got on Hwy 84. We stopped for diesel ($4.29) and a sandwich and arrived in Pendleton at 2:30 where we are staying at the Wild Horse Casino RV park.
After setting up we relaxed with a drink, computer & TV. We walked to the casino and this time supported a different Indian tribe! I made a late dinner to end the long day.

Apr 16th to 19th - Pahrump

Apr 16th – Mon
We puttered around this morning and then went for breakfast about 10:30. Next was a trip to get my hair cut. By the length of my hair when I was done, there should have been a barber pole outside the shop! We stopped at Terrible’s casino in town to spend some of the points on our players cards. They have a better selection of items than the casino here.
Beautiful weather again so Terry fished and I worked on pictures on the computer. I wanted to try out the immersion blender that I got at Terrible’s so I made milk shakes and joined Terry for a while. I was there when he caught his first – and last – fish which was a nice little bass that was released so another fisherman could have some fun.
We went for a walk and checked for a kayak to take out but there weren’t any available so we just continued around the lake. We stopped to chat with some people who we met here last year – Dennis & Judy and Larry & Donna.
We sat outside to watch TV before putting steak on the BBQ for dinner. Then I had to watch DWTS which we still only get in the bedroom and outside. It was cooling off quickly so we moved inside to watch the show.

Apr 17th – Tues
Same morning as yesterday – lazy and then go for breakfast. At the casino restaurant we have eggs, bacon (4 slices), hash browns & thick sliced toast for $4.99. We have been paying for it with points on our players cards so it really costs a lot more than that!!
Terry joined Hal to fish and I backed up pictures on the computer. Then I outdated my backup by adding captions to pictures. We went to WalMart for groceries – mostly staples as I haven’t been cooking very much.
It was time to sit outside to watch TV and have a drink when we got back and got everything put away. Then I got out of cooking again as Terry had a coupon for 2-for-1 turkey dinner. We thought that was going to be expensive too as we gambled after dinner but Terry won enough to cover us.

Apr 18th – Wed
We are getting into a rut – breakfast out again. We drove into town and looked for Billy & Lauri in the RV park where they were supposed to arrive today. We were directed to their site but they were gone. We left a note and then saw them on their bikes as we drove out. We had a beer with them and caught up on news then came back to our park.
Terry joined Hal & Larry fishing – didn’t catch anything – and I worked & played on the computer. Just before 4 we went to the casino as there were drawings for cash at 4, 5 & 6. About 4:30 Billy & Lauri joined us and about 5 we all went for dinner. We had a 2-for-1 coupon for baby back ribs which were really good. After we ate we all gambled and I won $75 in the 6 o’clock “hot seat” drawing. At that time I was down to $5 but my luck held a bit after the drawing and I turned the $5 into $50 which came home with us.

Apr 19th – Thurs
We found the laundry rooms in the park too busy again so we took our laundry into the big, clean facilities in town. We put everything away and went to the casino/restaurant for a late breakfast or early lunch. We were slightly early for a lunch special that started at 11 so we gambled a bit and then had great chicken philly sandwiches.
Later in the afternoon we went back to town to get elastic so I could fix my PJs and a switch so Terry could repair a lamp with a tri-light bulb. The old switch wouldn’t work when the lamp had been on for a while. The existing switch was plastic and would not come off the lamp so Terry ended up breaking it off with pliers. Then the new one went on fairly easily.
We relaxed with a drink, TV and a book and then ate artichokes. Later we were hungry so before going to the restaurant, we went next door to say goodbye to Hal & Sharon, Larry & Donna and Dennis & Judy who all happened to be sitting at Hal & Sharon’s. By the time we got to the restaurant we didn’t really want to eat much so came back and had hot dogs.
We are leaving Pahrump tomorrow morning and heading north. Hope we aren’t too early and hit cool & wet weather.

Apr 12th to 15th - Pahrump

Apr 12th – Thurs
We had another 8:30 pick up by Moe & Trish to go back to Death Valley. Moe first made a stop for gas as it is 135 miles to Scotty’s Castle – a big longer but takes less time going to Scotty’s Junction on the highway. We arrived in time to get tickets for the 11:20 tour of Scotty’s Castle which anyone who has been there knows it did not belong to Scotty. We had a good tour guide and really enjoyed the experience. Terry thought there was a restaurant there but they only had a cooler with drinks & sandwiches. We continued on through Death Valley to Stovepipe Wells Village and had lunch. Then it was back through the park to Beatty and south on 95 to Pahrump.
The weather was still cool today but it was nice enough to finish the sewing on Moe & Trish’s awning before going to dinner. Terry wanted to have baby back ribs again so we went to the restaurant here. Unfortunately, the ribs were not as good as the previous meal. We gambled a bit after dinner and Trish was quite lucky.

Apr 13th – Fri
It was another cool morning so after coffee, computer games, a bit of cleaning & email we went into town to check out some of the other casinos. It was a very bad day for me but Terry didn’t lose much. A long wait for lunch to arrive was OK as it stopped the bleeding a bit!!
We called Moe & Trish when we returned – in time for HH! – and asked them to come over for a drink. Then we all went back to the restaurant here for dinner as Moe & Trish both had coupons for 2-for-1 seafood buffets. We gambled a bit before dinner as none of us were hungry right away. Then more gambling after dinner as we stayed for drawings at 7, 8 & 9. Of course none of us won anything in the drawings! Terry & I continued with the same luck – mine bad, his good – as in the morning.

Apr 14th – Sat
I vacuumed up little bugs below the lamp that attracted them last night and continued on to vacuum the floors. After breakfast we lazed around – computer games & reading mostly. Terry picked up our ladder from Moe and Trish visited with me a bit.
Moe & Trish are leaving tomorrow so they invited us for dinner. We went there about 4 with the Sequence game. We interspersed games & dinner prep by Trish, cleared the table and had a great dinner and then put Sequence out again before dessert. Trish & I came back from 4 to 1 to end in a 5 to 5 tie.
It has been wonderful to spend time with Moe & Trish. We are already looking forward to getting back together in the fall/winter.

Apr 15th – Sun
Moe knocked on our door this morning to say that he was all hooked up and ready to go but couldn’t adjust the driver’s seat on his motor home. Terry didn’t have the current tester that Moe asked for but he went with him to see if they could figure out what was wrong. After Terry jiggled some wires, Moe was able to move the seat and get on the road.
About 11 we went to the buffet for brunch and I finally won some money when we spent some time on the slots after eating. The weather was beautiful so Terry dug out some fishing gear, sat on the lake bank and didn’t catch any fish. I called Marg and had a nice chat before going out to join Terry in the sunshine.
A neighbor – Hal – told us that there was a good and inexpensive buffet at the Nugget downtown so we went later to check it out. Inexpensive was correct - $11.77 for 2 – but we weren’t very impressed with the food & the messy floors. Bananas foster for dessert was one redeeming factor. When we got back, Terry went to bed to watch TV and I stayed up to finish a book.

Apr 9th to 11th - Pahrump

Apr 9th – Mon
It was nice to slow down this morning and have a nice breakfast after a long phone call to sister Marg. For all who know Marg & Dad – everything is going well with them.
We went to the casino for a while and then walked to the swimming pool where we found Moe & Trish. By this time everyone was ready for lunch so we went to the restaurant here where the guys had the $5.99 bacon cheese hamburger special with enough fries to share with the ladies who took it easy with the soup & salad bar.
We went with Moe & Trish for another visit to WalMart and couldn’t resist a Dairy Queen. We came home after a short happy hour so I could watch Dancing with the Stars.

Apr 10th – Tues
Moe & Trish picked us up at 8:30 for a trip to Death Valley. We decided to do the south end and drove through or stopped at Twenty Mule Team Canyon, Zabriski Point, Furnace Creek, Golden Canyon, Artist’s Drive, Devil’s Golf Course and Badwater. We skipped the Natural Bridge as it was a ½ mile walk and the temperature was close to the 100 degrees that it reached at one point. We took a lot of pictures and enjoyed a picnic lunch in the car with the AC running!
Terry had a coupon for 2-for-1 baby back ribs at the restaurant here but Trish wanted to use up some leftover quesadillas so we sent the guys to eat ribs and Trish & I enjoyed the leftovers. There are swarms of very tiny gnats here and suddenly Trish & I noticed thousands of them around the lights and on the ceiling in their motor home. We closed all the windows (all had screens), turned on the AC and started vacuuming up the gnats. The population didn’t seem to dwindle much so Trish pulled in the slides in case there was gap in a gasket somewhere. That was how the guys found us when they returned not long after we quit vacuuming. Moe put the slides back out and took his turn with the vacuum and by now there were definitely fewer bugs.

Apr 11th – Wed
We got the laundry ready and went to a laundry room in the park. There were only 4 washers with 2 just about done and the others just starting so we went to a second laundry here with similar results but including 2 dryers that weren’t working. A lady there told us about a nice laundromat in town so we went to find it. We finally had to stop at a gas station for directions. It was huge with lots of available machines so it didn’t take long to get it all done.
We stopped at a grocery store and came home to put everything away. Then we took my sewing kit and a step stool to Moe & Trish’s to help sew a seam that is coming undone on their awning. We kind of picked the wrong day as there is a wind sensor on the awning and a couple of times the wind picked up and the awning retracted automatically. We were just finishing one side of the seam when it started to sprinkle so we gave up. Moe was loading some CDs on his computer and couldn’t figure out how to add artist & track information so I spent some time and found how to do it – in “help” of all places!
We came home to start dinner prep and Moe & Trish joined us about an hour later. It was much cooler today so we stayed inside for drinks, dinner and a few games of Sequence. We had to play a final game to break the tie and the guys won.

Apr 6th to 8th - LV to Pahrump

Apr 6th – Fri
Ron & Terri went to McDonalds for breakfast before we were up & dressed. We had a light breakfast, visited with R&T and then we all went to Freemont St. We got a couple of coupons for $10 off at a sports bar in a casino so we had lunch there.
We returned to our rigs to relax for a while and then I made dinner for all of us. Ron wanted to see the light show one more time so we walked back to Freemont for a short time.

Apr 7th – Sat
Ron & Terri left EARLY this morning and we turned over and went back to sleep! After breakfast we wandered back to Freemont Street and then to Main St Station casino. After a while there, we checked out of our RV spot and came back to the rig for dinner & TV for the evening as we were pretty much gambled out.

Apr 8th – Sun
We didn’t have to leave early as it is only about an hour to Pahrump. Traffic was light since it was Sunday so the trip was easy. I always forget that you have to climb to 5400 feet to get over the mountains to Pahrump.
Moe & Trish arrived here yesterday so we drove past their site on our way to park but didn’t see them. Moe saw us however and was here before we got set up. We didn’t have breakfast so we and Moe & Trish went to the buffet at the little casino here by the RV park. It was actually a brunch buffet today which was perfect.
We joined Moe & Trish for a trip to WalMart where they got groceries and we picked up a few miscellaneous items. Trish was making dinner for us so we went to the casino for a while before dinner. We sat & ate a lovely dinner outside and then Moe and we went back to the casino. Terry felt it was his duty to help empty a bottle of Bailey’s after dinner so he was feeling no pain.

Apr 3rd to 5th - Mesa to Las Vegas

Apr 3rd – Tues
We did some more packing up and chatted with Leonard & Mary and Ron & Rea before doing some grocery shopping. We had lunch in the courtyard with Jim & Deb and Dennis & Gloria. We paid our electric bill on the way back to our site and finished up packing up & cleaning. Deb & I took some old lettuce to feed the tortoises then joined the guys at the courtyard to listen to music.
We invited Jim & Deb and Larry & Julie over for Frito pie for dinner. Ernie & Dianne went home from the courtyard, ate dinner and came to see us before we got around to eating. We had finished dinner when Mike & Susie joined us so we had lots of goodbye hugs when everyone left!

Apr 4th – Wed
More goodbye hugs and we headed for Las Vegas at 8:30. There was one freeway slowdown due to an accident but otherwise the drive was uneventful. We stopped for fuel & breakfast/lunch near Kingman which took more than we expected and we parked beside Ron & Terri at Main St. Station RV park at 2:45. We set up, walked to Main St. Station casino to register and Ron & Terri joined us there.
We all spent the rest of the evening & quite a bit of the night at Freemont Street. We tried very hard to “corrupt” Ron & Terri and got them started on their own collection of players’ cards. Terri won money on a couple of slot machines and tucked it away - for future gambling? We had a nice dinner, watched shows on the overhead roof/screen and listened to a loud Western band. I’m not sure what time Ron & Terri left us but we got home about midnight.

Apr 5th – Thurs
Terry & I went for breakfast while Ron & Terri went grocery shopping. Ron wanted to check out the pawn shop that you see on TV on Pawn Stars. Even thought it is only just over a mile from where we are staying we took the truck. We were glad that we did when we saw the line of people to get in, decided we weren’t going to wait and carried on down the Strip.
We parked at Mandalay Bay where Terry showed Ron & Terri a slot machine that he likes (Alice) and won $110. We took the tram to the Luxor and then walked to New York New York. Ron & Terri went off to have lunch while Terry & I gambled and I finally won some money.
We continued wandering & gambling and finally took the tram back to Mandalay Bay to get our truck.
Traffic was slow going back on the Strip and there was still a line at the pawn shop. I invited Ron & Terri for dinner so we relaxed a bit, had dinner, put on long pants & jackets (it cooled down and was windy) and went back to Freemont Street. We watched a couple of overhead light & sound shows, gambled away the rest of our winnings and got back shortly after 11.

Mar 31st to Apr 2nd - Mesa

Mar 31st – Sat
We finished the clean up from the party last night and I tried to figure out who owned some serving pieces. Then we went to a furniture store to meet Billy and deliver a chair to their RV park as it wouldn’t fit in his small vehicle. We chatted with them for a bit and stopped for a late breakfast on the way home. I am still not at 100% but feeling better.
I made chili for a potluck later today and Terry spent time on the computer and then watched a movie on TV. We had a drink with Ron & Terri before going to the farewell potluck for Dave & Glo at 5:30. They are moving to another Cal-Am park (VDO) hoping it will be a better spot with less pollen & dust to aggravate Dave’s allergies.
Ron & Terri were sitting outside having a quiet after dinner drink when we came home so they and Dennis & Gloria joined us on our patio for chocolate martinis & such.

Apr 1st – Sun
We gave goodbye hugs to Ron & Terri this morning even though we will be seeing them soon in Pahrump. We were watching TV when Stephanie stopped by to return our ice bucket and ask if we wanted some leftover ham & potato salad. It sounded good for lunch so we said sure and she returned with it shortly. A bit later Terry got bored so we went for a last visit to the Mesa Marketplace. We bought a couple of small items including a business card organizer for Julie. We delivered it and some serving dishes from the party on Friday when we got back.
When we got back to our site about 4, Jim & Debbie from Desert Hot Springs had arrived and set up beside us. They are here for a few days to see us, the park and Debbie’s brother. We had time to sit outside and have a drink with them before we went to Dennis & Gloria’s for dinner. It was windy but pleasantly warm.
Ernie & Dianne were also at Dennis & Gloria’s. After dinner we played Ponytail Canasta – 2 close games with the guys winning the first and the ladies winning the second.

Apr 2nd – Mon
I had time for a phone call to sister Marg before Jim & Deb stopped by on their way to register. We went to the office with them and then gave them a tour of the facilities. We came back for the truck and continued the tour to the farther parts of the park. We hadn’t had breakfast so I made an early lunch of pulled pork chimichangas and then sorted out the laundry. Terry dropped me off at the laundry room, went for diesel & propane and was back to help with the hanging & folding.
By 1:45 we were ready to go on a Poker Run here in the park. 63 people on bicycles and golf carts were divided into 5 groups. We went to 5 locations in the park to perform some task and get cards sealed in envelopes. We had to shoot pool, sing karaoke, hit golf balls into a net, use an exercise machine for 5 minutes and tour a park model. Part of the purpose of the poker run is to introduce people to features in the park.
We all came back to the BBQ area of the main pool where the activity director Camille was cooking hot dogs. After eating, we all opened our envelopes to see what kind of poker hand we got. The best hand ($60) was a straight and the next 4 winners had 3 of a kind.
We were going to move to the courtyard and listen to music but all the seats were in the sun so a group - Ernie & Dianne, Garry & Steph and Dennis & Gloria - came back to our place. Dennis & Gloria were still here when Jim & Deb got back from playing golf with her brother Garth and his wife Sandi who also came back with them and they all joined us. Light jackets and a buddy burner were comfortable after the sun went down.
