Sept 26th to 29th - Mesa

Sept 26th – Sun – Mesa
I thought I mentioned this previously in the blog but apparently not – we are going to be staying here in Mesa for about 3 months. The CalAm group of RV parks has a special from Sept 20th to Jan 2nd for $795 and we thought it would be a way to cut down on expenses for a while.
We rode our bikes to check out the amenities this morning. There are indoor & outdoor pools & spas, a huge library, a room just for making jigsaw puzzles, card rooms, ballroom, meeting rooms, outdoor bar & stage with covered seating, a couple of laundry rooms, woodshop, lapidary, miniature golf, tennis courts, fitness room, US post office and, of course, guest services offices. The RV park is actually 4 different areas and some of the other areas have pools, laundry rooms & activity areas which we all can use.
We made a trip to Costco to replenish Terry’s Scotch supply at $13.99 for 1.75 liters. Just had to include this information for our Canadian friends who pay so much more for alcohol. Costco now has their pumpkin pies in stock so we had to get one and then make another stop at WalMart for the whipped cream to go with it. When we returned, we hit the pool to cool off. Before I got wet, I went to the puzzle room for a while.
Dinner tonight was at Larry & Julie’s. We all took hamburgers for the BBQ and we had lots of leftovers from last night’s dinner as well as the pie for dessert. Larry & Julie have a 7 month old Schitzu puppy named Bandit so I could get my dog fix.

Sept 27th – Mon – Mesa
Blog entries are going to be slightly repetitive while we are in Mesa but I will probably still do an entry for each day.
I got up early and went to the fitness center for about ½ hour. I don’t want to do too much and end up with sore muscles. A bit later, we went to the office to register as the office is not yet open on the weekends. We bought a laundry card, picked up our mail box key at the post office and checked the activities office to see what was going on.
Next we sorted out clothes and went to the large, spotless laundry room. The washers are all front loaders which spin the clothes so dry that we didn’t use all the time on any dryer.
After lunch, we went to the pool. Again, I started in the puzzle room.
We are facing east and don’t get usable shade from our awning so we bought a free-standing sun shade at WalMart and placed it beside the back part of our 5th wheel. This will give us some late afternoon shade which is mandatory to sit out with the weather as hot as it is. This heat wave is supposed to ease by the end of the week.
Larry & Julie and Bill joined us for happy hour and then we all went our own way for dinner & TV.

Sept 28th – Tues – Mesa
Terry joined me at the gym this morning but I don’t think it will be something that he continues. Then we went for a long bike ride around the park and spent time inside before heading to a different swimming pool which has salt water. It is quite a bit cooler so you have to ease in after getting very hot in the sun.
After lunch, we went shopping for a few items and spent a lot of time at Hobby Lobby just looking around at the myriad of items that they carry.
We sat outside for a while before dinner but it was very warm when the slight breeze would die down.

Sept 29th – Wed – Mesa
After my gym visit & cool down this morning, Terry & I went out for breakfast and shopping. We bought a coupon book with a lot of 2 for 1 restaurant offers and used one today at what turned out to be a nice, clean place (Mickey D’s). We shopped at a few places including Camping World which is just down the street from the RV park.
Next to the salt water pool where Larry & Julie were cooling off and Bill & Lauri had just left for lunch. We didn’t stay too long as the group was going to a nearby Elks’ club to drink beer in an air conditioned building as the hot weather continues. We made use of the bench seat in the truck to fit all 6 of us for the short trip – nice!
We all stopped off at “home” to grab drinks & snacks-for-dinner and went to Bill & Lauri’s motorhome to continue the fun.

Sept 22nd to 25th - TX, NM, AZ

Sept 22nd – Wed – Amarillo
We went to the Tri-State Fair this morning. We saw an ad that said admission was free before 1:00 so we went about 11. We expected a much larger fair and were very disappointed. There was one commercial exhibit building with half the vendors not there yet and the midway and most of the food booths didn’t open until 4. We left before noon and found a Dennys for breakfast. Even that was not a great choice as it took forever to get our food and it was just OK.
Back at the park, I took a bag of books and stocked up at the large book exchange. Then we just hung around, watched TV and watched as it started to rain.

Sept 23rd – Thurs – Amarillo
It was still raining this morning so after a late breakfast we decided it was a good day to scan some photos into our computer. We got about 350 pictures scanned, named according to their date and moved to separate folders. By this time the rain had stopped so we went just down the road to an attraction called the Cadillac Ranch. It is 10 Cadillacs all buried at the same angle halfway into the ground in a farmer’s field. We walked out on a dirt road that was still slightly muddy to take pictures of cars that were totally painted with graffiti – and with a lot of spray paint cans discarded on the ground. I figure they must get repainted regularly.
From there we went to a WalMart for a few groceries and then back to the rig.

Sept 24th – Fri – to Grants NM
We drove on a section of I40 that we have not been on before and still have not actually seen it – it was very foggy for nearly an hour. Judging by the scenery when the fog lifted, we didn’t miss much. We were only driving about 5 hours today so we stopped at the Sky City casino west of Albuquerque. Again, Terry went through his allowance and I was still playing. With my last $5 I finally started winning enough to give Terry some more money and we were there for hours before giving it all back.
Terry wanted to drive a while but we aren’t going to have a long day tomorrow and the sun was right in our eyes so I convinced him to stay at an inexpensive RV park in Grants, about 20 miles down I40. The drive-through sites are large and we did not have to unhook. We worried about traffic noise from the highway until the first train went by very close to the park.

Sept 25th – Sat – to Mesa AZ
We gained an hour yesterday so we were awake early and on the road by 8. Actually, we were awake half the night with trains going by every 15 minutes or so – and this is non-exaggerating Glenda speaking!!
We stopped at the Fire Rock casino just out of Gallup to have breakfast, get a new players’ card and try our luck again. We each got a T-shirt for signing up, I did OK on the slots and slowed the losses but there was no place there to have breakfast so we stopped at Dennys on the way back to the highway.
We left I40 at Holbrook and angled SW to Payson and then south on the Beeline Hwy to Mesa. The first part of the drive is on the Mogollon Plateau which is mostly very flat and empty. We climbed to 7600 feet and then descended the Mogollon Rim. At one point we dropped 1000 feet in 3 miles. Love, love, love the new Chevy and the exhaust brake! The scenery south of Payson is lovely and more mountainous than you would expect in the middle of Arizona.
We arrived at Val Vista Village about 2:30, having gained another hour as Arizona does not recognize daylight savings time. Even though the sites are quite large, Terry really had to call on his driving skills to wiggle back into our site as the roads are narrow and there are citrus trees just in the wrong spots. Our friends Bill & Laurie had called as we were driving and found out that we were arriving today rather than Monday as planned. So they showed up before we were set up, stayed to admire the new 5th wheel and took us back to their spot to show off their new motor home. They also made dinner for us so happy hour began early. We were joined by their friends (Larry & Julie) from Spokane who are staying here as well.
This area is having unusually hot weather. The forecast for the next week or so is above 100 so the pool will be our place of choice for a while.

Sept 18th to 21st - OK to Texas

Sept 18th – Sat – to Thackerville OK
We had a short drive today so dawdled a bit before hitting the road and checked into the Winstar Casino RV park before noon. We set up, made some lunch and went to the casino which is huge. We were here 2 years ago and did not remember how large it was. It is called the Winstar World Casino as it has facades with architecture from different countries. I tried to get pictures but it was too long to do justice to it in a single shot.
You would think that with as many slot machines as there were that we would find a few that treated us nicely! Terry didn’t do well but I hung in for a long time and even gave him some more money.
I made dinner and we were surprised to get over 30 TV channels on the antenna so we had something to watch.

Sept 19th – Sun – to Bowie TX
We had an even shorter drive this morning so I got up early, made zucchini bread and vacuumed before going to Terry’s cousin’s (Theresa & Tom) ranch just out of Bowie. Some of you may remember that shortly after we visited them last spring, their ranch was burned out in an explosive grass fire. They have been in their new house for a couple of months and it is lovely. They built a new barn and replaced fences while Tom worked full time and Theresa worked at her store and on the ranch. The grass has come back nicely and they did not lose all their trees so the cattle still have necessary shade for the heat in the summer months.
We spent the afternoon catching up and Theresa (aka Terri) made dinner. Tom currently has a 2 hour drive to work each day so we didn’t stay too late.

Sept 20th – Mon – Bowie
We had coffee with Theresa before she left for the store. After a load of laundry was completed, we drove into town, got a couple of items at WalMart and went to Theresa’s store – Heartland. Theresa was waiting for a large shipment of Christmas items so we stopped at a car wash and then returned to our rig where Terry watched TV and I worked on the computer. Theresa came back with the boxes of Christmas stuff which Terry helped unload into the garage to store for a while. Before Tom returned from work, I had loaded some jokes & pictures onto Theresa’s computer as her old computer was destroyed in the fire.
After another dinner made by Theresa, we watched TV & talked, talked, talked.

Sept 21st – Tues – to Amarillo TX
We had coffee again this morning with Theresa, took some pictures and headed west. Just a few miles down the road, there was a roadblock because of a bad car accident and we had to take a slight detour but we got good instructions from the flagger and Wanda picked it up after a few miles.
The landscape changed from hills to flat and back to hills. Lots of cotton fields and small towns. We are at the Oasis RV park just west of Amarillo which has a special rate of $20 per night if you sign up for their free VIP card and you get the third night free when you stay 2 nights so I guess we are here for 3 nights. A great perk is being able to wash your vehicles in the park and we certainly have a lot of bugs on the front of the 5th wheel.
Cable TV is also included and it was very warm so we watched TV and took a short walk before dinner. After dinner, I helped Terry wash the bugs off the 5th wheel and then came in to do dishes. Next thing I know, he is washing the whole rig! I wanted to watch Dancing With the Stars and figured we had 2 more days to clean the rig so he got to do it by himself!

Sept 15th to 17th - SD, NE, OK

Sept 15th – Wed – Madison
We went through one of the longest thunder storms that we have ever experienced last night. The show started about 11 and it was still rumbling and raining at 6:30. We have 2 vents in the bedroom area and a large skylight in the shower so they would all light up with the lightning. We hoped the rain would wash some bugs off the 5th wheel and truck and we were not disappointed. In the morning, there were large puddles in the campground but the rain had mostly stopped.
We went to Clem & Marlene’s and saw some of their summer projects – Clem’s out of welded plastic (gates & bird feeders) and Marlene’s out of fabric (quilts). Then we all went to a casino about 70 miles north in Waterton. We convinced Clem & Marlene to sign up for players’ cards and Marlene got $20 free play for her September birthday as well as the $5 free play that we all got as new members. We gambled for a while, had lunch at the deli and gambled some more. Marlene also received a coupon for a free drink for her birthday so she used her winnings to buy us all a drink before we headed back.
The weather was nice when we drove up but Clem had told us when we ate lunch that it was raining. As we drove back, it started to pour. The wipers could not keep up with the rain but we drove out of it by the time we got to Clem & Marlene’s.
I helped Marlene with her computer and then we joined the guys for a drink. Clem heard on the news that there had been 2.8 inches of rain in the area we drove through today. We all went for a late dinner at a restaurant very close to our RV park.

Sept 16th – Thurs – to York, Nebraska
We had an uneventful drive today and ended up completely out of the clouds and rain. We needed groceries so stopped at a WalMart where we also had a sandwich for lunch. We stopped at an information center just into Kansas but it was not run by the state and focused more on gifts than information. I did get a couple of pamphlets and saw enough things that I figured we should stay in York where there is a PA park – Double Nickel RV.
We set up and went into town to check out an advertised “dozens of vendors” farmers’ market. Guess it is a little late in the season as there were only about half a dozen vendors – but we did get some good looking fresh corn. We looked for a place to get my hair cut and ended up at WalMart where I got an OK (quite short!) overdue haircut.
We celebrated the sunshine with a BBQ steak and some of the very good corn.

Sept 17th – Fri – to Guthrie OK
We had planned to stay a couple of nights in York and travel to see the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument but a couple of things changed our minds. First, it is at least 70 miles each way to the monument and we had asked a few people about it and no one had been there to say if it was worth it. Second, and probably more important, the weather forecast included thunder storms in the area starting about 4 and going all night. Terry heard one mention of hail also and decided we better get out of there.
The temperature went up steadily as we headed straight south through the rest of Nebraska, through Kansas and into Oklahoma. We are not too far north of Oklahoma City in a PA park – Cedar Valley RV. We arrived about 5 as we got a late start due to our indecision this morning. I was hoping that we could play the 18 hole par 3 golf course right next door but it is closed right now. So we did the next best thing and got the laundry done! We are close to the laundry so we could go back to the rig and sit in the shade of a nice tree with a cool drink while we waited.
The temperature was still 80 at 10 o’clock so we definitely got to check out the air conditioner.

Sept 11th to 14th - Hot Springs to Madison SD

Sept 11th – Sat – to Hot Springs SD
The trains did not let up all night! Since we drove so long yesterday, we had only an hour and a half trip today so took our time leaving and were at Charlie & Julie’s by 11. We parked the rig beside their 5th wheel, showed it off to Charlie & Julie and then walked to the neighbors where there was a group of friends watching a college football game and preparing to have biscuits & gravy for brunch. Bill & Joanie have a wonderful “playhouse” for get-togethers. It is a separate building (900 sq ft?) with kitchen, bathroom, a tall long table with stools and a couple more seating areas. And of course there are several TVs so everyone can watch the game without turning around. Items collected from trips are hung on every surface and the whole thing is so much fun. Also there were Norm & Barb and Lee & Rita (cooking). The whole group know each other from Nebraska – and are all Huskers fans - and have all ended up in SD.
After brunch, Charlie & Julie took us on a tour of Hot Springs and the immediate area. We drove up a narrow, rutted, steep, 4WD road to a get a great view over the city. I took some pictures of signature sandstone block buildings downtown that have been there over 100 years and still look great.
Charlie & Julie have a party room on one end of their huge garage which also has all the amenities – kitchen area, bar, bathroom and tall, long table with stools. This was where we spent happy hour, had dinner and talked away the rest of the evening.

Sept 12th – Sun – Hot Springs
We went for coffee at Charlie & Julie’s and then they made breakfast before we took our truck and all headed to Deadwood. Charlie drove since he knew where we were going and he loved the idea of trying out the truck. We stopped at Menards (huge home supply store) in Rapid City so they could get some plumbing supplies as Charlie is helping their daughter & son-in-law fix up a house. Of course we found a couple of items that we had to have.
We drove through Sturgis and got to Deadwood just after noon. After finding a parking spot, the next item was lunch which we were able to enjoy outside as it was a wonderful, sunny day. After lunch we went to one of the largest casinos and did a bit of gambling. I finally lost $20 and Terry moved to a 21 table and ended up $50 ahead. Charlie & Julie are not big gamblers so spent a few dollars each and then we all watched Terry play where Charlie realized he knew the guy playing next to Terry at the 21 table.
We took a different route home – through Hill City & Custer – and got back about 4:30. I had taken steak out for dinner. I put together potatoes & onions in foil, Julie contributed tomatoes, cucumbers & a zucchini casserole (veggies from her garden) and we were joined by their friend Mike for another wonderful evening in the party room.

Sept 13th – Mon – Hot Springs
Terry & Charlie took our truck into Rapid City to get a rock chip repaired. We had the truck only 2 weeks when we got the small chip and we didn’t want to take a chance on it running. While they were gone I worked on the blog and emails. Charlie & Julie are leaving tomorrow for a trip to Kingman AZ so had to do laundry, pack, clean up their car and run to town for a couple of errands. Then we were all going boating.
I made some sandwiches and we drove the short ways to the Angostura Reservoir where Charlie was borrowing a friend’s pontoon boat. It took a long time to get it running but finally we were cruising around the lake in 93 degree weather. We washed our sandwiches down with beer (of course), cut the motor and floated for a bit before we decided it was too hot and that we needed to be moving to get a breeze and then pulled the boat up on shore for a while. Charlie was worried that the gas was low but we explored more of the lake and returned to the dock without a problem.
Charlie & Terry returned to the boat with a can of gas as Charlie had used the boat a few times and figured he should replace some gas.
Bill & Joanie came over for happy hour and when Charlie returned he called Norm & Barb and they joined us as well. Eventually they all left and we had BBQ hamburgers for dinner.

Sept 14th – Tues – to Madison SD
We had coffee with Charlie & Julie this morning and still left at 8 with promises to get together this winter. We decided to drive the 401 miles to the other side of SD today rather than splitting up the trip. We took I90 and figured there wasn’t anything that we wanted to stop & see on the way. We stopped at Wall Drug for breakfast and pulled into The Lakes Campground on Lake Madison at 4 Central Time. We couldn’t figure out where to go to get a site and then a guy ran to catch up with us and led us to a spot in a different part of the park. After setting up (and hooking up all 30 feet of sewer hose and trying to get it to drain uphill!), Terry had to drive to the golf course beside the campground and register.
A couple of hours out, we had called our friends Clem & Marlene to have dinner with us so they arrived about 5:30. By then I had ribs boiling and had made coleslaw and potato salad. They had to check out the new truck & 5th wheel and then we had lots to catch up on before, during and after dinner.

Sept 8th to 10th - Missoula to Newcastle WY

Sept 8th – Wed – Missoula
We talked to our neighbors Jim & Nancy this morning after their rig had returned from the service department. The repair was not satisfactory so when their 5th wheel was towed back in, they came over to see our rig and see what we had done for organizing things.
After lunch, we went to do laundry. The first facility that we tried was temporarily closed due to a fire but the next one was much nicer than the one we used when we were in Missoula previously. We made stops at a liquor store and a grocery store on the way home, unloaded and put everything away and kicked back.

Sept 9th – Thurs – Missoula
A forklift came to get Jim & Nancy’s 5th wheel even before they were up and I heard Jim ask for 20 minutes to get ready and pull in their slides. So Terry got up and told them to come over for coffee while their rig was being worked on. We talked non-stop until their rig came back in about an hour. The weather was cool & rainy so we thought it was a good day to scan some pictures from our photo albums. We had everything out & one set of pictures scanned when a service guy came by and said our awning had arrived – a day early! We just had time to get everything put away and the slides ready to come in when they came to move us to the service bay.
There is a nice waiting area so I read a book and Terry paced – as usual. We finally decide to go get some lunch and had just arrived at Costco when our salesman Todd called to get some info on our old Challenger. He had a couple interested in buying it and wanted to introduce us to them and have us give them information about the rig. We downed our lunch, went back and toured the Challenger with the prospective buyers.
Shortly afterwards, our rig was towed back to the parking spot. We went to check things out and the awning was great but 3 other items that we wanted checked out had not been added to the work order even though Terry talked to the service manager on Tuesday and we sent a list with the forklift driver. So – the rig got towed back in and I hit the waiting room and my book again. About 4, the Montana was back in our parking spot. We put out the slides and we were about a foot from the neighbor’s steps!! We could have put the slides in, hooked up to the truck and moved it but it was easier for us to go get the forklift operator to park it correctly. He was not exactly happy!
Everything is fine now. We relaxed with a drink & dinner and listened to the rain.

Sept 10th – Fri – to Newcastle WY
Some nut was parked in front of the dump station at Bretz RV this morning and was out looking at motor homes!! Someone paged him to move his rig so we could dump our tanks and get on the road. We are heading to South Dakota to visit Charlie & Julie who we met in Yuma last winter.
We drove I90 all day – not exciting but interesting with changing scenery. We stopped for lunch and then Terry thought we should drive a little further than we had originally planned. Well, that plan was not great! We went to a park in Gillette which was a good distance but the park was full. We couldn’t find a little RV park in Moorcroft and couldn’t get turned around so kept on driving. We ended up at 7 o’clock in Newcastle in a strangely laid out RV park behind a motel. Luckily there were lots of spaces and it was level so we didn’t even have to unhook. As I was walking back from registering, a train went by close to the park. Since then, several trains have gone by but only a couple blew their horns and they weren’t too loud.
Tons of channels on cable TV and nothing great to watch! Oh well, soon to bed.

Sept 5th to 7th - Missoula

Sept 5th – Sun – to Missoula
We stopped for diesel and propane as we pulled out of Philipsburg this morning for a 1 ½ hour drive to Missoula. We are staying at Jim & Mary’s RV Park just west of Missoula. It is “spacious & friendly” just as advertised.
After lunch we went for a few groceries and some stain for our little fence project. The rest of the afternoon & evening was spent relaxing, working on the computer and watching TV since we have cable here.

Sept 6th – Mon – Missoula
We moved to the “customers waiting for service” parking area at Bretz RV today. We are hoping that the replacement awning will be here tomorrow and that we don’t have to be here for many days. I worked on the computer a lot and we watched a golf tournament on TV. A couple from New Jersey came to our door as they were trying to figure out if anyone was working here today and we ended up chatting with them for a while. They are trying to decide if they should get an RV or a winter home when they retire.
Bretz has a free RV dump station so there was a steady stream of traffic since it was the end of a 3-day weekend. We discovered that Bretz has 79 cent propane which of course is much less than we paid yesterday.

Sept 7th – Tues – Missoula
Terry went to the service department first thing this morning and found out that even though the awning was ordered on Aug 30th, it did not ship until today. So the ETA is now Friday and we have a service appointment then. In the meantime, we are just going to camp out here. We have stayed all around the area and don’t want to drive very far just to come right back.
We thought we might get new cell phones but after visiting a Verizon store we decided to stay with what we have until the batteries get worse. Then we went to a satellite TV provider and didn’t like the options there either. I returned some stain that we got for our “fence” and got a stain pen which worked OK. But after I moved stuff onto the shelf, I decided it looked too messy and changed it all back! On to Plan B whatever that is!
While I was making dinner, Terry chatted with a couple (Jim & Nancy) who are right beside us in a Montana 5th wheel and waiting for an appointment tomorrow. They are from Port Ludlow WA and not full-timers but looking to travel more.

Sept 2nd to 4th - Helena & Philipsburg MT

Sept 2nd – Thurs – Helena
I updated the blog and continued work on pictures this morning. We finally took some pictures of the truck and 5th wheel and got them posted. Thanks to everyone who kept bugging us about them!!
We went out for some lunch and then went on a boat trip to Gates of the Mountains on the Missouri River at 2. The weather had turned sunny and warm and the open tour boat was perfect. The driver/guide was very knowledgeable and kept up a running commentary for the entire 2 hour trip which went 6 miles down and back up the river. Strangely enough, the Missouri runs south to north in this part of Montana so we were going downstream as we headed north towards Great Falls. The guide included geology, history, animals and plants in his talks. It was interesting, beautiful and very relaxing.
We sat outside for a while when we returned and then came inside for dinner.

Sept 3rd – Fri – to Philipsburg MT
We took the slightly longer route (Hwy 15 to 90 and then 1) to Philipsburg this morning as we just drove part of the shorter route a couple of days ago. The portion of Hwy 1 that we drove is also part of the Pintler Scenic Loop and it definitely lived up to its name with one long downhill stretch that made Terry praise the exhaust brake again.
We settled in at the small RV park connected to the Inn at Philipsburg and went to explore the town. The main tourist street is lined on both sides with fun shops and places to eat & drink in old buildings. We hit them all and had lunch in one.
We bought a folding toy fence to use to hold items on an open shelf in the bathroom. But we had to modify it which was quite the little job with our few tools. A neighbor from Florida, who was checking in at the same time as us, came over for a long chat later when we were sitting outside.
The weather was beautiful today but it cooled down rapidly so we moved inside for dinner and then watched a couple of movies.

Sept 4th – Sat - Philipsburg
We went sapphire “mining” today. We drove 6 miles south and then 16 miles west to a facility where you could buy buckets of dirt from a mine, wash it and pick out the sapphires. Screens, tweezers and brushes were provided. An employee showed us how to rinse the dirt in a big trough of water and hopefully end up with sapphires on the bottom of the screen as they are heavier than other rocks. Then you flip the whole screen of rocks over on a table. The tweezers are used to pick out the very small sapphires which are recognized by being clear like glass and can be any color. You gradually spread out the rocks in a single layer and then use the brush to sweep them off the table once you are sure there are no more sapphires. We did 2 buckets ($15 each) and ended up with 2 sapphires that were actually large enough to heat (develops and evens out the color) & cut. This would cost $69 for both and they would be worth about $75 each when it was done. It takes a while to get it done and we had no idea what we would use them for so we left them unprocessed for now.
As we were finishing picking the sapphires, big clouds were building and we heard thunder in the distance. When we drove away, it started to rain so talk about good timing. We went back to the rig where I made a late lunch and then drove into town to buy an item that I saw yesterday. We drove around the area a bit but didn’t find anything exciting to see or do and ended up renting some more movies as there is absolutely no TV reception here. About 6:30 it poured rain for a while and sent a large group next to us indoors.

Aug 30th to Sept 1st - to Montana

Aug 30th – Mon – to Polson MT
Lonnie & Cindy came over to say goodbye this morning. We pulled out about 8:30 after hugs all around and assurances from Bill & Georgia that we could stay longer.
We are heading back to Montana as we discovered a dent in our awning roller and the RV dealer is going to fix it under warranty. It will take a while for the roller to be delivered as it is too long for regular UPS but we decided that we have taken advantage of B&G’s hospitality long enough. We received a 2 night stay at the KOA in Polson when we bought the 5th wheel so we are going to take advantage of the offer.
We stopped at the 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar for breakfast and got to the RV park in the early afternoon. We went out a bit for a couple of errands and spent the rest of the day & evening watching the rain and listening to the wind.

Aug 31st – Tues – Polson
After a lazy morning and breakfast, we went to The Great American Museum here in Polson. It is an amazing place with a large building containing an incredible number of displays and then there are 40 smaller buildings behind it crammed with items. Of course the spaces between buildings are also filled with stuff. Just to name a few things – motorcycles, military displays, farm machinery & hand tools, chain saws, boat motors, bicycles, household items, whimsical welded “art”, cars, soda fountain. Be sure to stop if you are in the area as it is well worth the $5 entry fee.
We drove around town and up the lake a ways before returning to the rig where I actually got started on getting captions on pictures so I can post them to the google site provided in our blog. I ran out of the free space provided and had to sign up for additional space which takes 24 hours to process.

Sept 1st – Wed – to Helena MT
We took an indirect route to Helena today as we wanted to drive Hwy 83 which is shown on maps as a scenic drive. So we went north up the west side of Flathead Lake, across the end of the lake and then south on the east side of the lake. If you like “tree tunnel” roads, this route is for you! We got a peek through the tree tops once in a while of the mountains to either side of us. But the road was good with very little traffic.
We thought we might stay in the Seeley Lake area but it was cold, rainy and fairly early so we decided to carry on to Helena and are at the Lincoln Road RV park. After setting up, we explored the area a bit and ended up stopping at Costco and a few stores in a nearby shopping center. The rain stopped but it was still cool so we settled in for the evening. The additional space for posting pictures was available and I actually have caught up to March this year.
PICTURES OF THE NEW TRUCK & 5TH WHEEL HAVE ALSO BEEN POSTED!!!
