May 27th to 29th - 100 Mile House

May 27th – Sun
I got a load of laundry going right after chores & breakfast and then helped Marg hook up her boat to go fishing with Quille. I caught up the blog & email while Terry took the top part of the 5th wheel hitch to the shop to sand & paint it as it had some rusty spots where the paint had rubbed or chipped off. We puttered around, had lunch and then went to play golf.
The little course here still has the $15 unlimited golf rate so we got a cart and played 18 holes. The weather was perfect for shorts and the mosquitoes didn’t show up until the last 2 holes.
When we got back, we discovered that the final ewe had twins while we were away. They are really tiny and didn’t look very old. But they were both quite vocal and feeding. I put mom & babies in a pen in the barn and set them up with feed & water before doing the rest of the chores.
We were sitting down to dinner when Marg got home. We didn’t have to wait for her as she was invited out for dinner – but she had to inspect the new babies first.

May 28th – Mon
We got going early this morning as I had a 9 o’clock appointment for a haircut and Marg had a 9:30 doctor appointment. She dropped me off and then I walked to the medical clinic when I was done. We picked up a few groceries and made 2 more quick stops before heading home. Terry had been pressure washing fences so I helped him while Marg planted peas. Rick and his friend Kim stopped by to say goodbye, bring scraps for the chickens and see the baby lambs.
After lunch we went wood cutting. Terry & Marg had pushed over a lot of dead trees, limbed them and hauled them to a clean area. Terry pushed over 4 more trees while Marg & I worked on the large chain saw. It finally started after we cleaned the air filter and put in a new spark plug – which of course required a trip to the shop to get the correct wrench. Terry lifted logs using tongs attached to the bucket on the tractor and Marg cut them to firewood length. The tongs are attached about four feet in from the large end of the log with the tractor in line with the log. When the bucket is lifted, the butt end of the log hits the underside of the bucket and the log is lifted above the ground which allows the chainsaw operator to stand at a comfortable height. I had the easy job of marking the length to cut the rounds and signaling Terry to move forward and lower or raise the log.
While we were working, Buck (small horse) went running along the fence. Marg had let him & Snow out to graze so Buck finally came to see the neighbor’s horses which causes problems. So Marg & I had to take time to catch him & escort him home. A ewe & lamb were out because Buck opened their gate again. Snow was calmly waiting in the sheep corral.
I started dinner and did the chores while Marg sharpened the saw and put the sheep into another field. Marg & I went to Nicole’s place (they are in France) and cut asparagus to add to a yummy dinner.
We had unexpected company when Marg’s friends Ted & Denise dropped in for a nice chat.

May 29th – Tues
We had another early start today as we didn’t want to be too late leaving for Kamloops. Before we left, while Marg was watering in her garden, Terry & I went to the neighbors’ place to pick up strings from hay bales for Dad to braid into short “ropes”.
In Kamloops, we stopped first at Costco and then to a computer store to buy a computer for Marg. Next to Superstore for fuel & groceries and WalMart for slippers for Dad and an ink cartridge. On to Princess Auto for a trailer jack, Price Matters for perogies, Summit Tools for sanding belts and Batteries Direct for, of all things, a battery. We grabbed a sandwich at Subway and hit the casino. At the computer store Terry realized that our golf clubs were still in the back of our truck. It started to rain at the tool store so we threw the clubs into the back seat – on top of the potato chips! –and rode 3 in the front to the casino.
We had fun at the casino. For the first time in a long while, both Terry & I won - $170 for Terry and $40 for me. Marg was ahead and would have done OK except we weren’t quite ready to leave then and she ended up spending her winnings & more.
We stopped at DQ in Cache Creek for dinner which included Blizzards for Marg & me. Terry & Marg unloaded everything while I fed the hungry critters.
Who says you can’t have happy hour at 8:30?

May 24th to 26th - 100 Mile House

May 24th – Thurs
Terry helped Marg hook up her small boat to go fishing this morning. Earlier we dumped out water that had been sitting in it all winter but Marg didn’t get back to actually cleaning it out. Terry parked it on a hill beside the house and used the pressure washer to make quick work of cleaning out all the green stuff and mud.
After Marg left, I suggested to Terry that we clean the fascia boards on the chicken house as it is going to be painted. Once the fascia board was clean, I worked on a strip along the bottom that was also yucky. Then we decided that we were not going to use red oil paint that Marg bought to paint over old oil paint on the chicken house (other buildings are shades of a rust color) so we needed to pressure wash the whole chicken house so we can use any paint or stain. And that is what we did! We had to move an old rabbit hutch and put boards for scaffolding on top of the outdoor runs to reach the top of the building but we got it all cleaned up & ready for paint.
We loaded up bags of garbage and made a trip to the transfer station. Dad told us about a different route back and we enjoyed seeing different scenery that included a lot of ranches that you wouldn’t even suspect were there.
We were invited out for dinner tonight and I told Marg that if she wasn’t home by 5:15 we would be leaving without her and she would have to come when she got home. At 5:05 I called her truck “phone” and she was 3 minutes away so we could wait for her to change and all go together.
We had a great dinner at Al & Cecile’s. Their friends Herb & Pat (who we met last year) were also there. Oh yeah – Marg caught a couple of nice kokanee today.

May 25th – Fri
I started mowing some grassy areas around the yard this morning. I used the grass catcher for some heavier areas and dumped the clippings for the chickens, sheep, horse & donkey. For the shorter & sparser grass I just mulched it with the mower. In this climate, if it doesn’t rain much (as usual), Marg will only have to mow the areas a couple more times this year. While I was mowing, Marg & Terry went out to limb downed trees & pull the trees out to be split for firewood. They ran out of gas in both chain saws and the saws were dull so they were back in for lunch shortly after noon. By this time I had set Dad up to start power washing the corral fences – again in preparation for painting.
After lunch I continued with the fences and Terry & Marg went back to cutting up trees. They came back after a short time to get the tractor so they could push down dead trees and cut them up. When they were done about 4, I had totally ticked off the 2 sheep in the corral that I was washing and I was ready to quit too. But I had washed our sheets so Terry & I couldn’t start happy hour until we had the bed remade.
Marg went to visit friends for dinner and I cleaned up some leftovers for our dinner.

May 26th – Sat
Marg had a meeting this morning at 10 and we were going to meet her at 11:30 so I set the sewing machine up again to do a couple of things. I successfully shortened another towel and then tried to shorten pants for Marg. My machine started looping threads and I couldn’t get it to stop so I had Terry haul out Marg’s 40 pound sewing machine and was able to complete the job.
When we went to town we stopped at the post office, pharmacy and grocery store. I made an appointment for a haircut and then we met Marg at the hardware store to decide on some paint. We each had another stop and then met at A&W for lunch.
Back home, I set up the pressure washer again and started washing some more fences. Terry came out to help and before long I left to help Marg with the chain saws. Once we he had them sharpened, we went to test the small saw by cutting a few scraggly trees and some dead ones in the area that we are cleaning up. By the time I got back to Terry, he was resting his arms & back so I finished up the easiest part of three fence sections and we put the pressure washer away. I helped Marg a bit in the garden and it was past quitting time.
We filleted & deboned the 3 fish that Marg caught lately and fried them on a griddle on the BBQ. They were a very tasty part of a late dinner that also included perogies.

May 20th to 23rd - 100 Mile House

May 20th – Sun – 100 Mile
The lamb looked OK this morning and I felt a lot better when I saw him feeding.
Terry got all ambitious and decided we should put the sealer on the deck. We swept it off and Terry started putting the sealer on with a roller. Of course it didn’t coat the cracks so I had to get a brush. We barely had enough sealer to finish the deck. Before I even had everything put away from that job, Terry was starting the lawn mower. We used the weed eater and lawn mower to clean up the garden area and the “lawn” between the house and the greenhouse. Then Terry spotted some tall grass & willows by the driveway so he got the “crocodile” (wheeled weed eater) and cleaned it all up.
We got to relax in the afternoon. I took our blog from when we went to Alaska in 2007 and turned it around so it read from start to finish rather than in the “3 or 4 days upside down” format as it exists in Word. Then we printed it out so we could use it as a reference for our trip this year. It started to sprinkle about 4:30 when I went out to check the lamb so I did the chores early. We dumped out a new puzzle, turned over the pieces and made most of the edge.
When we went to our rig about 9:30, I heard a lamb baaing and the sound was not coming from the field where they were grazing. Sure enough, the lamb was in a different field. By the time I opened & closed gates to keep everyone else from getting out while I was getting the lamb in, I was cussing and had wet feet as I had just slipped on my Crocs. And in the end the silly lamb went through the watering trough rather than the gate I had opened!

May 21st – Mon
I set up the sewing machine this morning to shorten a pair of jeans, hem a T-shirt, mend a pair of shorts and shorten a towel. The weather was cold & rainy so we worked on the puzzle. Marg got home about 2. She was delayed by a flat tire on the truck. She was travelling with her friends Quille & Gail and they managed to get the tire changed.
By the time we checked out the new lamb, got everything unloaded from the truck and parked the boat, it was time to relax a bit before happy hour, chores, dinner & DWTS.

May 22nd – Tues
Marg & Rick took their pontoon boats and went fishing this morning. By the time we made sandwiches for their lunch and loaded Marg’s boat & gear, half the morning was gone. It was cloudy & cool so we stayed inside. I worked on the computer and Terry mainly worked on the puzzle.
After lunch we took Dad to town for an appointment to check his new hearing aid. We hit the grocery store, liquor store & hardware store before heading back. The clouds cleared away so Terry waxed the front of the 5th wheel and used dry wash on the truck to get rid of water marks left from washing it. I did a good cleaning in the 5th wheel after putting our purchases away.
We planned on having fish for dinner and I waited too long before deciding to start something else since Marg wasn’t home. I ended up thawing pork chops in the microwave. We would have been hungry otherwise since Marg came home with one fish and Rick threw back the one fish that he caught. We barely had time to finish the dishes before watching the finale of DWTS.

May 23rd – Wed
Marg & I organized & packed up the recyclables before we went back to our cleanup project this morning. Marg went to limb some trees but came back a short time later as she couldn’t get the small chain saw to start. She went to get it from the front of the ATV and realized it had fallen off on her drive back. She was working in the field where the sheep are grazing so I went to open a gate for her to go back and waited until she returned with the saw. The sheep were making it hard to get through a gate on your own because the pasture was grazed down. Marg then had to take time to hook up another section of electric fence and put the sheep into a different field before she could work on the saw. By the time she got the saw working, we had used the big saw to cut up an old log & cut down some scrawny trees and were ready to break for lunch.
After lunch, we took Marg to pick up her truck which she dropped off yesterday to get the tire fixed. We dropped the recyclables off first. It is great to see how much Canadians recycle. We finally got our forwarded mail so we won’t have to make a trip to town every day to check.
I had to spend time on the phone to get our new credit card activated and to get credit limits changed from our old card to the new one. Then I got on the computer to finish up dealing with the changeover.
We had quite a rainstorm about 3 so I was doubtful about going golfing. It cleared up but I had already talked myself out of going so Marg went by herself. She said it wasn’t too cold and they had just a few raindrops.

May 16th to 19th - 100 Mile House

May 16th – Wed – 100 Mile
Marg worked in the garden this morning while we kind of goofed off – OK, I listened for the end of cycle tones from the washer & dryer. After lunch Marg went to pick up her boat which was being repaired and Terry & I went to town to run errands – grocery store, pharmacy, liquor store, post office, library and service station to fill jerry cans with gas & diesel.
Terry got out the pressure washer that Marg just bought and started cleaning the deck so we can put on a coat of preservative. I made a batch of hamburger/macaroni for the guys for dinner & did some cleaning. When Marg returned with her boat, I helped her clean up her motor home.
I did the chores before Marg & I loaded our clubs and headed in to play golf with the ladies’ league. The weather was much warmer than last week but since we have a 5:30 shotgun start we definitely needed a jacket. I had a mediocre game and Marg struggled. The restaurant was still not open but when we paid we signed up for 2 slices of pizza which was served with salad & dessert for $6.

May 17th – Thurs
We are not feeding hay to the sheep any more so I did the chores before breakfast and threw in a load of laundry. Marg was getting ready to go camping & fishing and we helped her. She had a seat for her boat which had no pedestal so Terry found a length of pipe that was almost the right size. But it had to go on the outside of the seat and in the inside of the mount in the boat. Of course it didn’t fit either one exactly. We had to grind out the inside of the pipe and drill holes to make a slot for the seat end and then Terry used an old lathe to turn a length of birch wood into a “dowel” that would go inside the pipe and inside the mount in the boat. It ended up being a little too high so we will probably be working on it again.
We had lunch after Marg and her friend Toni left just after 1. Then Terry continued with the pressure washing on the deck and I went to the area we are cleaning up and picked up sticks. There was a large pile in a hollow that had been there for a few years so I threw it all over the fence and we will move it all with the tractor later. Of course it was not right beside the fence so I had to climb up some rocks for each armload. I also threw other larger limbs over the fence as it will be easier to pick them up there.
The cook had a break with leftovers to pop into the oven while she was enjoying a cool drink.

May 18th – Fri
We got up late and had kind of a lazy morning. I moved the sheep to a new pasture and for a change they did not all come running at once so I had to make a couple of trips opening & closing gates and calling the sheep. Yes, they do figure out that you are calling them. I normally would just have opened the new gate but Marg’s friend Rick is arriving today and needs to get his pop-up trailer out of the hay barn and that is where the sheep were.
Right after lunch we took Dad to have his regular blood test. There wasn’t a long wait so we waited for Dad and then went to the grocery store and the lumber store as Dad needed some screws for his birdhouses.
We picked up the big pile of branched that I threw over the fence and then picked up two more loads in the area that we are cleaning up. Terry cut down quite a few little scraggly trees that Marg said she would like to have removed and he also cut up longer limbs as the access for the tractor is tight and you can’t have long branches hanging over the edge of the platform.
We had finished work when Rick arrived about 4 and Terry helped him hook up to his trailer. I had emailed Rick to invite him to dinner tonight so he came back about 6.

May 19th – Sat
One of the late ewes lambed last night so it took me a while to get in from doing chores. I had to get mama & baby into a pen in the barn and feed the 2 ewes separately now. Marg had told me to push the ewe against a wall and milk her a bit to make sure both “faucets” were working and I even managed to do that. After breakfast, I was concerned that the lamb was not feeding so I found a small syringe, milked a few tablespoons into a dish and fed the baby. I repeated this process a couple more times during the day as the lamb would sometimes manage to grab a teat but not suck very long.
Terry got very ambitious and washed the truck and most of the 5th wheel. I helped Terry squeegee the 5th wheel and made a batch of antipasto. I was just finishing processing the second batch of jars when Al & Cecile came by for a visit. We had a nice long chat and showed them pictures of the balloon fiesta in Albuquerque.
Happy hour, chores, dinner, TV, reading & computer games were the familiar finish to the day.

May 13th to 15th - 100 Mile House

May 13th – Sun – 100 Mile
Terry was antsy this morning so at about 10 we went to Williams Lake and stopped first at the casino. I steadily lost my allowance and was down to about $5 when I started winning on a machine that I hadn’t played previously. I was able to cash out $165 and immediately stashed $100 in my “do not take out” pocket. I hadn’t seen Terry for a while – and this is a small casino – so I thought he must be doing OK. He soon wandered up with no money left so after I won a small bonus I gave him $10 which didn’t last long. I was still up so I cashed in $50 and we left will money ahead for a change.
We went to WalMart for groceries and grabbed a hamburger for a late lunch. We were back in plenty of time to work on a puzzle, do chores & make dinner.

May 14th – Mon
After breakfast & chores we made a quick trip to town to check the mail. We are waiting for a new credit card and the bank keeps calling to see why we haven’t activated it yet. We know from past experience that mail forwarded to Canada takes a long time to arrive and it hasn’t got here yet.
We took the brush cutter off the tractor so it would be more maneuverable to clean up some old, big fallen tree trunks – Terry’s idea! The trees are rotten so Terry could get large pieces with the forks on the tractor but there was a huge mess left behind. I first picked up sticks and threw the longest ones over the fence to be picked up later and then helped Terry clean up the mess from the rotten trees. An area used previously to burn debris is close to where we are working so it didn’t take long to dump each load. We cut down a few small trees that were in the way and cut up limbs that were too long to handle but that was the only chain saw work.
It was quite hot today and we were exhausted by 4 so we quit and took refreshing showers before happy hour, chores and baby back ribs for dinner. Of course I had to watch DWTS.

May 15th – Tues
We cleaned up more broken up, rotten old logs this morning. We have both decided that we have aged more than a year since we were here last year as we certainly can’t work as long and as hard! The excess weight that we are both carrying sure doesn’t help!
We quit in time to make another quick trip to town to check the mail – no luck. Then the cook took a break and we stopped to pick up hamburgers to take back for lunch. We were being lazy after eating – Dad sitting in the sun and Terry & I working on a puzzle – when Marg got home from her little vacation. We helped her unload all her purchases and then went for an ATV ride to check the pastures & fences. By the time we made a few gate changes to accommodate the sheep in a new pasture, it was time for happy hour & to get dinner in the oven. We ended the day watching DWTS.

May 9th to 12th - 100 Mile House

May 9th – Wed – 100 Mile
It was just above freezing this morning and didn’t get too much warmer! Terry & I went for a ride on the ATV and found a field that could use the brush cutter. While Terry did that, I put air in the ATV tires, raked up leaves & branches and took a heaping wagon load to the burn pile. Dad was working on bird houses in the shop. I started stew in the crock pot for Terry& Dad’s dinner.
Just as we were sitting down for lunch, an installer arrived to put in a new internet dish & modem which he finished at 2:30. Terry made a platform to lift Dad’s recliner a couple of inches to make it easier for him to get out of the chair. Later I dumped out & turned over a new puzzle & Terry played games on the computer.
I was taking Marg’s place at golf and for a while – when it was snowing!! – thought I would not go. But Terry had already put my clubs in the truck so he talked me into going. I cut my time a little short so I rushed through the chores instead of taking time to tell Terry what to do.
It was COLD golfing. Some of the greens were pretty rough and there was one temporary green due to winter grass-kill. I did as well as can be expected with cold hands and being bundled up in multiple layers. We normally have dinner while the prizes are handed out but the restaurant wasn’t open so I made myself dinner (the guys ate all the stew!) when I got back just after 8.

May 10th – Thurs – 100 Mile
After breakfast & chores, Terry & I went to pick up Marg’s motor home which ended up with new front shocks as well as the oil change. On the way we stopped and picked up the mail and some groceries.
In the afternoon I raked leaves, cones & twigs off the lawn area between the house and greenhouse and raked up all the seeds & hulls that the birds drop out of the feeders all winter. Terry helped load junk into 2 big tubs and made 2 trips with them to the burn pile. We found 4 kittens in an unused barn so Terry euthanized them. This may sound heartless to some readers but this is farm life and Marg has too many cats now.
After dinner I made a large batch of Everyday Cookies – yummy – just what we all need!

May 11th – Fri
We had a pretty lazy day today. After I put a roast in the crock pot, I did a couple loads of laundry and a bit of cleaning while Terry did more research for our upcoming trip to Alaska.
After lunch Terry & I got hooked on the current jigsaw puzzle. I finally went out, did more raking and took 4 more tubs to the burn pile. It was plenty warm to work in short sleeves. Since I was now moving I vacuumed the front room in the basement which is the entry and gets all the dirt & hay bits.

May 12th – Sat
We went to the home/yard/RV show this morning. It wasn’t very big but the weather was warm & sunny so it was nice to be out & wandering around. We looked for some heat resistant paint at the lumber store and then went for lunch at A&W.
When we got back, Dad found a sunny spot for his lawn chair which worked well for his afternoon nap. Terry & I rode over to see neighbors Ralph & Jeanna but they weren’t home. We tried to figure out what to use for a small project in the shop which wore us out so much that I read & Terry had a nap.
When Terry woke up he thought it would be a good idea to go golfing which I had mentioned earlier. The small golf course in 100 Mile (Marmot Ridge) has a “$15 for all day” special so we ended up playing 14 holes which makes sense when you know that the 5th hole ends at the pro shop. We were both too lazy to climb the 6th & 7th holes to complete the second round!
By the time we finished & got home it was time for happy hour, chores, dinner, reading & TV. We got a fun phone call from Julie and her visitors Ron & Terri.

May 6th to 8th - 100 Mile House

May 6th – Sun – 100 Mile House
We went back to the field where we worked yesterday and first started another fire to let it burn down to weiner roasting coals for lunch. Terry pushed over several dead trees with the bucket on the tractor so we had more limbs & wood to clean up. I went back to the house to get food & Dad and we burned a few wieners for lunch. We worked after lunch to finish our goal for the day.
We all went to friends Francis & Nicole’s to clean out their asparagus bed. They are in France so Marg is looking after their cat Smarty, picking up their mail and doing small chores. We then stopped to see Al & Cecile. Cecile was in Kamloops for the day but we had a nice visit with Al.
We got to relax and count our sore muscles for the rest of the afternoon & evening.

May 7th – Mon
After breakfast & chores, Marg & I maneuvered her motor home out of the barn as it needs an oil change before she uses it this year. Terry put our empty propane tank in the truck and we followed Marg to town. We went to the visitor information center while Marg got air in her tires, we both got propane and then we dropped the motor home at the home of the mechanic. We made a detour on the way back to town to check on Marg’s boat which is also getting some work done on it and found that it needs more repairs than anticipated.
We went to Safeway, the liquor store and then to Home Hardware. Luckily Marg reads our blog so she knew we were looking for an electric mattress pad and had found one at Home Hardware of all places. We were happy to get it and Marg thoughtfully bought each of us a pair of work gloves! We had a late lunch at A&W, picked up some grain at the feed store and headed home to unload everything.
When I was putting groceries away, I noticed Buck (pony) & Snow (donkey) grazing by the house so I thought Marg let them out. Turns out Buck did one of his sneaky escapes and broke them out so we let them enjoy the grass. Terry worked on a puzzle and studied the Alaska Milepost book while Marg & I repaired the gate used by Buck, fixed a Y fitting for water hoses, tilled the garden and transplanted some seedlings.
The lambs are free to graze around the house but Terry noticed a couple of ewes in the yard. Buck had decided that he had enough freedom so he opened the gate to a corral and he & Snow traded places with the 2 ewes that haven’t lambed yet. Luckily they love grain so it wasn’t hard for Marg to get them back in. After dinner we watched DWTS and I introduced Marg & Dad to 321 cake for dessert. Marg put the sheep out to pasture for the first time this afternoon so I had to walk through the corrals with the flashlight to close the gate before we crawled into our nice warm bed.

May 8th – Tues
Marg was making phone calls this morning so we ended up with a late breakfast & chores. Then Marg changed clothes, packed a suitcase and left for a little vacation to visit friends & relatives.
The sheep have been leaving quite a bit of tough hay in the feeders so we clean it out before putting in new hay. (Yes, Marg’s sheep are spoiled!) There was a wagon full and a couple of piles so we got Dad to pull the wagon with an ATV and we moved all the hay to a pile in a nearby field.
After lunch and Dad’s nap, I cut his hair and we all went to town to pick up Dad’s new hearing aid. Somehow he lost his previous one. All went well and we will all be much happier with Dad able to hear us and him not having to put up with an old squealing hearing aid.
There wasn’t enough time left to do much of anything before happy hour, chores & dinner.

May 2nd to 5th - Logan Lake to 100 Mile House

May 2nd – Wed – to Logan Lake
We went to the casino this morning as Terry thought he saw an ad for breakfast. He did see an ad but it was for Friday so we gave them a bit of their money back before leaving. We packed up and left about 10:30. We stopped at a little cafĂ© and had a great breakfast. We drove through Kamloops and set up in my cousin Pat’s driveway in Logan Lake. Pat & Rick took their 5th wheel to Kamloops today for some maintenance and thought they would be back about 3:30.
We went right back to Kamloops as we were very low on DEF. We fueled up, picked up a few groceries and got back just after Pat & Rick.
It is quite cold here so we stayed inside, caught up with news, had a drink and relaxed. At 5:30 we joined Don & Joanne and Lynden & Charlie at “wing night” at the pub for dinner. The guys managed to stay awake to watch Survivor when we got back and then we all crashed.

May 3rd – Thurs
We went in the house for coffee and then Pat made breakfast – love this RV park too!! We went to Rick’s Mom’s – Marie – to help her with Picasa before we all went to Kamloops. Rick picked up a step for his truck that he ordered, we stopped at a mall where Pat thought there were inexpensive Dawgs (oops, sale was over) and stopped at Costco for lunch and to look for a BBQ for Marie. Then we went to a casino. Parking was jammed at the casino downtown so we went to the little one on the north side which was not friendly at all!
When we got back, Pat did some dinner prep and then we taught them to play Ponytail Canasta. They are canasta players so it was easy for them to learn. We fit in a great dinner between 2 games of canasta and each team won one game. The guys beat us by a whole lot more than we beat them but a win is a win! We were going to watch a movie but it was too late.

May 4th – Fri
After Pat made waffles for breakfast this morning she put brownies in the oven while I brought in our laundry and got the first load going. Pat & I walked the very short way to her Mom’s – my aunt Adela – and we visited for a while. Then we finally started watching the movie (J. Edgar) that we intended to watch yesterday. We paused it to get a snack for lunch and then again to chat with Pat’s daughter Morgan and her friend Shane. We finished the movie in time for Rick to pick the grandchildren up from school. Pat & I made a quick trip to the grocery store to get some raspberries for dessert, Rick delivered the grandkids to their dad and we had a drink before going to Don & Joanne’s for dinner.
Joanne is a quilter and has some lovely pieces in her house. We had a very good dinner of baby back ribs, roasted veggies & salad. Rick & Don didn’t want to play cards so Pat, Terry, Joanne & I played a couple of games of Golf.

May 5th – Sat – to 100 Mile House
We packed up, hooked up the 5th wheel and went in to have coffee with Rick & Pat. Pat talked about making muffins but we all decided to go out for breakfast instead. We left about 10 for the just over 100 mile drive to my sister Marg’s. We stopped in town to dump our tanks and arrived at Marg’s just in time to unhook & level before lunch.
After lunch we finished setting up the rig, changed into “work” clothes and headed out to a field for our first job. Terry drove the tractor, beat down little willows with a brush cutter and brought the tractor & bucket when Marg & I needed to load sticks to dump on a burn pile. We had one smaller pile of sticks so Marg lit it to satisfy the pyromaniac in me! Marg also cut up a couple of trees for firewood. It is amazing how much better the land looks when the little willows are cut down and downed trees are cleaned up.
We quit about 5, did chores and relaxed for a bit before making dinner. Terry’s hip was bothering him so we went to bed early.
We started with snow flurries in Logan Lake, some rain as we were driving, sunshine in the afternoon and a cool, clear evening to view the large moon.

Apr 29th to May 1st - Spokane to Vernon

Apr 29th – Sun
I added bacon to Georgia’s breakfast this morning and then we went for a sightseeing drive. We went to the dam on the Spokane River in Post Falls. The water is really rushing through the channel and boiling up a long ways past the dam. There is a very pretty little park where we walked and took pictures. Then we had to stop at Dairy Queen for ice cream.
While we were finishing our ice cream, B&G’s friend Lonny called to say that his son crashed in an ORV park and asked Bill if he could pick up the motorcycle as Lonny had to take Joe to the hospital. We drove to one ORV park and discovered it was the wrong one. By this time someone else picked up the bike so we went home and walked across the street to see how Joe was. He had to stay in the hospital and have an operation to stabilize his broken pelvis.
I finally caught up my blog and the guys picked up Papa Murphy’s pizza for dinner. After dinner we played Sequence and the women barely won again.

Apr 30th – Mon – to Summerland, BC
We closed everything up and went over to have coffee with B&G and say goodbye. We were on the road just after 8 for the 250 mile drive to Summerland. We parked in Aunt Jessie’s driveway and got out a couple of chairs to sit in the sun and wait for Aunt Jessie to return from town. Just before she got back the sun disappeared and we had a few rain drops.
Aunt Jessie made cabbage rolls for dinner as Terry really likes them and she didn’t make them the last time we visited. We had a nice evening catching up and then watching DWTS.

May 1st – Tues – to Vernon
Marg mentioned that Vernon has a nice new casino so that was all it took to make us decide to take a different route north after having coffee & toast with Aunt Jessie. Unfortunately, Wanda (GPS) took us to the wrong address so I called the casino in Kamloops to get the correct address. There was not a lot of parking for RV’s so we went down the road a short ways and got a site at the Silver Star RV park.
Terry got a strange text on his phone saying our Verizon account was locked so we spent time on the computer & phone finding out that it was a scam. Yesterday morning we got a call on each of our phones saying our Global Credit Union credit card was locked and we don’t even have an account there so we were kind of spooked by the call supposedly from Verizon.
We then headed to the casino. At the first machine I played, I won $125 so I was happy. I continued doing OK while Terry did not. We had a late lunch and went back to the slots where Terry now started winning a bit. Since I was playing on “their” money, I played a nickel machine and won $308 on a bonus!! That came back with me as well as $60 with Terry which was nice for a change.
We relaxed with a drink and enjoyed a couple of cabbage rolls that Aunt Jessie sent with us.
