Aug 29th to 31st - Monroe WA

Aug 29th – Wed – to Monroe WA
Clear skies and shorts to start the 200 or so mile trip to Monroe to see Larry & Barb who we met 5 years ago in Alaska.  I didn’t check the GPS and Wanda sent us right through downtown Wenatchee rather than staying on the highways.  We stopped at a café in Peshastin at noon for breakfast.  Some highway signs for restaurants have a circle with ”RV” in the corner of the sign which means there is sufficient space for RV parking.  It is very nice to be able to exit for the restaurant without worrying about having to back out of a tight spot.
We stopped for fuel just out of Monroe and backed into Larry & Barb’s driveway around 2:30.  We always have a good time catching up with Larry & Barb and today was no different.  Barb had baby backs for dinner and we gave them a lesson on how we make them.  The weather got cloudy when we crossed the mountains but it was still warm enough to eat outside once we put on long pants and a light jacket.

Aug 30th – Thurs
Barb made a great breakfast for us this morning so we would have energy for our 9 holes of golf a bit later.  I started out great but with no way to go but down, Terry & Larry struggled and Barb mixed good shots & bad.  Terry & Barb wore long pants and were wishing they had changed to shorts a couple of holes into the game as it was very warm.
We had BBQ hamburgers for a late lunch which set the scene for afternoon naps & reading.  We did eat a light dinner of halibut & salad which could have been later but we were expecting company for dessert.  Barb invited Bill & Nadine and Jim & Penny who we met in Desert Hot Springs.  It was great to see them again and we enjoyed Blackberry Dumplings made with blackberries that Terry & Larry picked in the backyard and along the street.

Aug 31st – Fri
We were lazy this morning and were surprised when Larry came out and told us at 9 that Barb had made us a $40 (joke based on an experience in Alaska) breakfast.  The guys had to eat fast and go to Larry & Barb’s daughter’s house not too far away to wait for a dryer delivery since Becky’s dryer had suddenly quit.  They were given the usual time range – in this case 9:30 to 11 – and the delivery truck showed up at 11:10.  Barb & I had a leisurely breakfast and gabfest.
Larry went for a walk with Jim, Barb puttered around and we went to get a few items at Fred Meyers.  At 2:30 we went to the Western Washington State Fair which is here in Monroe.  We did the usual wandering, eating & looking for each other.  Barb & I took a long time in the quilt/photo/etc building and couldn’t find the guys when we finished.  Neither of us took our cell phone so I finally asked a guy at the first aid tent if he would call Terry.  He got the biggest kick out of doing so but Terry didn’t hear his phone.  Just as Barb was having him call Larry, we spotted Terry.  We thanked the first aid guy and he said we made his day as he never had to find missing husbands before!
We went to the rodeo which was quite small.  More time was taken up with horse drill teams & vaulters than with rodeo events.  However, the drill team of 11 riders and the vaulting group of 4 large horses & at least 15 riders & handlers were very nice to watch.  The rodeo was over about 9 and we headed home.
We were slightly hungry and determined not to miss happy hour for the second night (!!) so we fixed our drinks and heated up leftover ribs for a perfect snack.
