Aug 15th to 17th - 100 Mile to Vernon

Aug 15th – Wed
More laundry today. We thought we had all the split wood in but we went to look at another spot and found a smaller wagon load which we brought in & stacked. We went to town for some groceries and Terry looked unsuccessfully for some car wax that Francis uses on his motor home.
When we returned, I painted and Terry washed the truck. Then we cleaned out our clothes closet and the storage under the bed – it is amazing how much stuff we carry around and don’t wear.

Aug 16th – Thurs
After breakfast, Terry & I went back to town for a couple of grocery items that we forgot yesterday. We also went to the hardware store for a gallon of stain for the fences and Terry found his car wax there.
After lunch and putting a turkey in the oven for dinner, I returned to painting fences. Terry waxed the truck and then sat with Dad and watched me work! I finished the sections in front of the barn that I wanted to complete – just before my back and arms gave out.
We didn’t really know when to expect Marg & Toni to return but were a little worried when they didn’t show up by dinner time. We ate and put the leftovers in containers but left them out on the counter rather than putting them in the fridge. They finally showed up about 8:30 and heated up plates of turkey dinner. They didn’t catch many fish but had a great time.

Aug 17th – Fri –to Vernon
I did the chores one last time this morning and then went back in the rig to change out of my “farm”clothes. We hooked up & packed up before we went in for breakfast. While we were making & eating breakfast, I tried to remember all the little items that I wanted to tell Marg. After tearful goodbye hugs, we pulled out just after 9. I have never seen Terry drive the dirt road to the main road so slowly – he didn’t want dust all over his shiny truck!
We had a couple of short delays for road construction and got to Silver Star RV Park in Vernon just before 1. There was a line of rigs checking in and then we had to wait while someone backed a trailer in and blocked the road. I was happy that Terry suggested making a reservation as the park is full.
After setting up, I made sandwiches from some of the leftover turkey that I brought from Marg’s. Then we were off to the casino – of course! It was very warm so we turned on the AC before leaving. Our friends Terry& Judy who live here are busy tonight so we will see them tomorrow.
At the casino, Terry was not winning at all but I was doing OK. He finally played $5 free play and $8 from points on his player’s card, hit 2 bonuses on the same machine and cashed out $270. I didn’t tell him about some money I stashed in my pocket so we ended up $250 ahead for a change. Back at the rig, we enjoyed a drink and an odd dinner of Chinese pork & baked sweet potatoes.
